Studi Mendalam Bentuk-Bentuk Diskriminasi Rasial Dalam Novel The Fortune Men Karya Nadifa Mohamed

Abstract

Racial discrimination is one of the social issues that continues to occur in society. Differences in race, skin color, and ethnic background often lead to unfair treatment toward certain groups. This issue is also represented in literary works, one of which is The Fortune Men by Nadifa Mohamed. This study aims to analyze and describe the forms of racial discrimination portrayed in The Fortune Men by Nadifa Mohamed. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a sociology of literature approach. The data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques. The findings reveal that racial discrimination in the novel is represented through several forms, namely racial stereotypes, racial insults, unequal treatment, racial labeling, and intimidation toward certain racial groups. These forms of discrimination indicate that racial identity still influences the way individuals and groups are treated within society. This study is expected to provide a better understanding of the representation of racial discrimination in literary works and to increase readers’ awareness of the importance of equality, justice, and humanity.
