Abstract

Accurate triage is a fundamental component of emergency care because it determines patient treatment priorities according to the severity of their condition. Nurses' educational level has been considered one of the factors that may influence triage accuracy. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nurses' educational level and triage accuracy in the Emergency Department of Tenriawaru Regional General Hospital, Bone Regency. This quantitative study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 28 emergency department nurses, all of whom were included using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a respondent characteristics questionnaire and a triage accuracy observation sheet. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Fisher's Exact Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents held a Diploma in Nursing (64.3%), while 78.6% performed triage accurately. Bivariate analysis revealed a p-value of 0.375 (p > 0.05), indicating no statistically significant relationship between nurses' educational level and triage accuracy. These findings suggest that triage accuracy is not solely determined by formal educational attainment but may also be influenced by other factors, including work experience, triage training, and clinical competence. Continuous professional development through regular training and evaluation is recommended to maintain and improve triage performance in emergency departments.
